Rest In Peace

Oh, it's so sad!! Actor Jerry Orbach, star of the hit show Law & Order, has passed away due to prostate cancer. He played Detective Briscoe for an amazing 12 seasons solving crimes and cracking great dry one-liners.
He had just left the show this season, much to the fans' surprise, and was scheduled to be a recurring character on a new spinoff, Law & Order: Trial by Jury. (Can you believe how successful this show and all its spinoffs have been?)
Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit have recently become two of my most favorite shows and as one of the fans, he will most surely be missed! Man, why do all the great ones have to go? First Superman, now Jerry Orbach. And he was only 69 years old.

Christmas 2004

Well, we're almost through the holiday season. We spent Christmas Eve at the Mynsbergs' house. Jim and Judy hosted a great Christmas get-together and almost everyone was there. There was a White Elephant gift exchange which was really entertaining--there were things I didn't think would get stolen like that hideous 4-faced candle-holder or the box of ugly ties.
Christmas Day was great too. The early afternoon was spent at Jessica's house exchanging a bungload of gifts and taking endless pictures of Derek, my cutie-pie nephew. Then it was off to Kalamazoo for Christmas turkey at my sister's house and for an even bigger bungload of gifts. I think the kids made out like freakin' bandits! It was tiring but fun, but I'm kind of glad it's over...until next year!

Happy Holidays!

What a hectic time of year, shopping for everyone's gifts. And just when you thought you were done, you realize at the last minute you weren't quite done. Not to mention all the holiday parties and get-togethers with co-workers, friends, and best of all, family. Sometimes I can't wait for it to all be over, just so we can take it easy and get back to our normal routine.
Anyway, from our family to yours...HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!!

Working for the Weekend
Yay! I'm finally gainfully employed. I applied to Kelly Services and they've already found me a position as a temp at a place called ProQuest. They're a company that collects and sells all kinds of information on microfiche and microfilm. I'm working with their marketing department managing some of their sales catalog information and today is my first day. The work is tedious, but it's alright because I don't really feel like thinking too hard right before the holidays. It's a good way to ease me into the job. And the hours a somewhat flexible which is nice.
I'm hoping this will last a while since I really need the money. I'm still looking for a writer's position, but this will be good work in the meantime. In fact, I have an interview coming up right after New Year's Day for a proposal writer's position in Livonia. But there's also a possibility I might be here for quite a while, if I like it enough. The woman I'm replacing was here for a year and a half and only left because she had a baby. I guess we'll see how things go.

Hark! The Herald Angel Sang

Well, last night was a really special treat. Don took me and the Roses to see LeAnn Rimes perform with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for my birthday. We started with a lovely dinner at Mediterrano, though there was no time for dessert and we did have to listen to the shrill, icepick-like shrieking of a one-year-old child for an excruciating 45 minutes while the mother did little to quiet her. There was a bit of construction traffic heading downtown Detroit which made me a little nervous that we'd be late for the show, but we managed to make it there with about 10 minutes to spare.
Our seats were about 5 rows from centerstage, so we had a prime view of LeAnn. The DSO started with a few instrumental carols before LeAnn came out to sing. It was a wonderful concert and she sounded so angelic. Even though we had to listen to the fat lady behind us humming every song, I still thought I was on cloud 9...until she sang Amazing Grace. As soon as I heard the first word, I already had tears streaming down my face, I was so emotionally moved by the beauty of her voice. If I'd known she was going to sing that, I would have brought tissues.
Did I mention we also saw Bill Lambeer as we were leaving?
Thanks, Don! This has truly been the best birthday ever!

'Tis The Season
Well, it's the season for all the holiday parties. We missed one due to Don's being ill. He's been fighting a cold and a sinus infection for quite some time now. Hopefully, he's over the hump.
Then came our NSG Christmas Party which was graciously hosted by the Mahoneys at their beautiful and spacious new home in Hartland, north of Brighton. I had to drive all the way to Waterford (near my old apartment) to pick up the Thai food for the party which everyone raved about. I'm sure a couple of the dishes and desserts were a little too strange looking for some, but all of it was mighty tasty. There was so much food that we sent everyone home with some.
We have more Christmas activities coming up (besides shopping). This Thursday is the Leann Rimes concert with the DSO and Sunday is Katie's Christmas party which I'm very much looking forward to. Besides, I can't wait to see how big her kitties have gotten. They're so cute and playful!

It's A Tough World Out There
Well, it's been months now and I can't seem to land a job in my field. I want to do some writing, but there just isn't anything available right now. And the jobs I've been interviewing for either chose someone else or put their plans on hold.
So I went to Kelly Services this morning and applied for some temporary secretarial/clerical work. Took over 2 hours to fill out the paper work and take their computer proficiency tests. Plus I had to watch a video all before I really talked to anyone. Hopefully, this will keep me busy and I'll be earning some money in the meantime. I'd hate to be broke and relying solely on Don, financially.

SUCCESS!!!
Whew! I finally defeated the game. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is really hard! If it weren't for the PoP:WW message boards with hints, I'd still be trying to crack the game.
The Dahaka beast is a really scary creature that literally had me shaking in my boots trying to run from it, since there's absolutely no fighting it. You stop for one second and he kills you, so you run from it blindly without being able to analyze your surroundings which means you don't know what you have to do to get away which means you end up retrying the level several times! UGH! Plus the Empress of Time, is a real beeeyatch to kill and her attacks really hurt!
The whole thing gives me a real adrenaline overload. And that was on easy mode! Apparently, there's also a second ending that to see, I'd have to play all over again! Maybe I'll wait awhile to let my adrenaline level subside to normal.

The Adventures of Gino

Yesterday, I went to visit my cousins for the day. This is my cousin Jib who just got married in May, is living in San Francisco, and is visiting until Monday. She's holding my nephew Gino, Rosie's son, who's 13 months old and VERY cute.
Rosie, Jib, Gracie (Rosie's sister) and I all had a great time hanging out. We went shopping at Costco and to the grocery store, ate lunch at The Original Pancake House in Birmingham (yum!), played with the baby and had dinner together. Of course we took many pictures and fawned all over Gino who couldn't get enough of the attention.

Los Tres Amigos

Don and I found another great Mexican restaurant right here in Ann Arbor called Los Tres Amigos, which means "the three friends". It just opened in November and is by the Amoco station at the Briarwood mall, next to Bally's fitness. Their food is really good, cooked and served by real Mexican people.
I particularly like the tacos (big surprise) because their ground beef is really flavorful. They have a really big menu to choose from including yummy Taquitos Mexicanos. Their rice and beans are also particularly tasty and the flan dessert is sweet and light. Of course, I think Don's favorite is the fajitas. They give you a bungload of chicken--so much that you'll have leftover chicken after you've stuffed yourself. So I highly recommend you check it out. You won't regret it.
Interesting tidbit...after we ate there, I went home to watch Law & Order and the episode playing that night happened to have the same actress who played the love interest in The Three Amigos movie. Coincidence? I think not.
