Horseback Riding

This weekend was a lot of fun. Saturday, I skipped karate because I wanted to go horseback riding with Jessica and the Four Gillmans. I had to skip class because I would have been too tired going to advanced class, then regular class, then horseback riding. It was a ride to celebrate Jessica's and Mary's birthday. We would have celebrated Danielle's birthday too, but she couldn't make it. Her brothers were in town. Too bad.
We met at Jessica's house and took off from there. I almost couldn't find the street she lives on because the directions I had from Google told me to turn on Washington, but there's NO Washington! WTF? That's ok, I called the house and Brian directed me there. Brian drove us to the stables (and he was FLYING!). I thought I was a fast driver (no longer).
I got a horse named Cinnamon who, I was told, didn't need a "heavy hand" to control her since she was so responsive. But as I rode her, I realized she definitely had a mind of her own! She didn't want to do anything I wanted to because she just wanted to take off. I kept trying to keep some spacing between her and Brian's horse "Tank"--I was afraid Tank might get uncomfortable with her being so close to his rear, but he didn't seem to care about much at all.
In fact, Brian had a hard time getting him to keep up with the others. And I got a lovely musical treat being right behind them. I think they fed Tank a huge pot of beans or something because all I got were farts in my face. Especially because Cinnamon kept walking RIGHT up against his rear. Yummy! NOT! And BOY, if you could have seen what I saw when we left the gate...they don't call him Tank for nothing! Let's just say that he was hung! HA!!
The whole ride, Cinnamon kept dropping her head to try and take the reins out of my hands so she could take off. I would have let her just go, but we were told not to pass, that we had to stay single file. And the trail was only narrow enough for one horse about 85% of the time anyway. She really seemed to want to be the lead horse and I had a hard time slowing her down to get some distance between me and Brian.
But at least, there were no cows to stampede and spook our horses this time. It was a tame ride. I think next time, Jess and I will go and take the more advanced ride where they probably do some trotting and/or running. FUN!!
Anyway, afterwards, we went to another stable where Jessica is keeping her new horse, Kai (above). (Click here to read more about him on Jessica's blog.) He's a gorgeous 14-year-old Arabian. We got to meet him and a couple other horses kept by the stable-owners. Then we went to Red Robin for dinner. Too bad Don didn't want to join us. As he put it, "A body at rest tends to stay at rest." Guess he was too tired after working out at the dojo all day. Don't blame him. But it was fun--I learned a couple new signs from Mary and split a yummy chocolate malt with Amanda.
After that, I went back to Jessica's house to spend some time with her and Brian, Derek and a couple of their friends. Mostly I was helping Jessica watch Derek while she prepared some snacks for her friends. It was so cute--Derek and I were having such a good time that when I had to leave, he got all upset and didn't want me to go. :-( What a sweetheart he is!! I can't wait for Thanksgiving to see all of them again!!

Whoa, that was indeed one tame trail ride! My riding stable mount, Dozer, was a pretty nice horse, though. He responded pretty well to my cues.
I'm glad that you got to see Kai, and it was fun to have you over to visit and eat chocolate muffins after our huge dinner at Red Robin!
