Tired
It's already been a busy weekend. Last night after work, we went to the 32nd annual banquet for the dojo. Not the most exciting event, but it's a good chance to hang out with a lot of our martial arts friends. It was at the Holiday Inn on Plymouth Road. I wasn't expecting it to be very fancy, but the food was pretty darned good. I also met the sensei that runs the dojo near my office--he teaches a friend of mine from work. Small world! Dr. Herbert Wong, one of Mr. Scott's teachers, was there and he always gives an insightful speech, then some of our students and instructors give a few martial arts demonstrations. There's always a Chinese lion dance--but the people that perform it pretty much suck. Plus they're always really LONG. If I never have to see another one of those, it'd be too soon. As far as other entertainment, they tried to have Karaoke, but that kind of failed miserably. No one wanted to get up and sing except for the little kids and a few Kung Fu people. But once Chris Solano, our resident Elvis, got up and did some songs, those of us who were left got up and danced. So it wasn't a bad night. But we were tired--we didn't get home until almost 1am.
Then today was the dojo open house. They put out lots of interesting pictures of people from the dojo--some from as far back as the beginning of the dojo. Cool! There's also weapons and artwork on display which is kind of cool too. We got to watch some rare footage of Mr. Walter Todd, another of Mr. Scott's teachers. He was tossing around Mr. Scott and Mr. Z--it was pretty interesting.
Right after that, we had to go to my Mom's house. My sister had come over with the kids and since I hadn't seen them for a long time, I though we should go visit. Rosie, Oak and Gino were there too. I tell you...I love all those kids to death, but man are they LOUD! I get there and they're already screaming at the top of their lungs! Ugh! So much energy in them--it wears me out. But we had more Thai food. And PJ, so cute...he says to me "Come tomorrow! Come tomorrow!" And Tessie wouldn't let go of my leg as we were trying to exit the door, the little goofball!
I'm just glad that we're going away on a nice week-long vacation in a couple of days from now. Tomorrow, Don's going back to the dojo to participate in Dr. Wong's seminars. I usually like to do them too, but two of them are kung fu style which I'm not really interested in and besides, I want to spend tomorrow packing and getting ready. I've got some laundry to do and I want to do a little cleaning before we leave since Pam and Nick are coming over for the weekend to look after the cats while we're away. I can't wait!! I wish we were there right now. I'll make a few entries when we're there and take a few pictures. Ta for now!
