New Job
It appears that as of tomorrow, I'll be gainfully employed again. At least, for the next few months. Got a call from a recruiter this morning saying he might have an interview for me as soon as today. The job is for an interactive agency which is led by a guy who I worked for 5 years ago in Detroit. But he said he'd have to call me back when he found out for sure.
When he did, here's how it went:
Recruiter: Ok, 9am tomorrow.
Me: You mean for the interview?
Recruiter: Nope, for work.
Me: WHAT?? Wow, holy crap!
They decided to skip right over the interview and hire me straight off! That's NEVER happened to me before. Apparently, the person they had before didn't work out and now they need someone. The guy hiring remembered me from our JWT days together, so looks like that someone is me! Yay for me! That's a record too, only having been out of work for 2 months. :-)
Moral of the story? Never burn your bridges! You never know WHEN your previous connections will come in handy.

Early Birthday
I guess things are coming early this year. First Thanksgiving, now my birthday. Don went out and bought a new flat screen LCD TV which meant we had to move all the other TVs around. That also meant Don was thinking of getting a new couch and maybe entertainment center for the smaller flat screen.
We ended up with a whole new living room set for the upstairs including a sofa, love seat, lounge chair (makes a great reading chair), coffee table, end table, and entertainment center. I got everything I'd been drooling over that I'd seen online--EVEN the bookshelves I wanted too! Yay!! And now he's talking about maybe even getting some new speakers for the upstairs. When I get a new job, I think I'll buy a new bedroom set. :-P

Early Thanksgiving & Other News
Sunday, Don and I went over to Aunt Nancy's & Uncle John's house for a kind of early Thanksgiving. Don's cousin Myke (above) and his family, who live in Virginia, had come into town to visit and we don't get to see them but once every few years.
Aunt Nancy cooked an incredible turkey, just oozing with juices! It was so delicious and yummy--some of the best turkey I've ever had. But then, Aunt Nancy IS a master chef (at least in my eyes). It had all the trimmings. I have GOT to get Aunt Nancy's recipe for stuffing. YUM! AND I got my slice of pumpkin pie before it was gone. Yay!
Some of the kids (and adults as well) went out to play some football after dinner and there's a good picture of Myke with some hefty grass stains on his shirt from having been tackled. Heh! After that, we adults (and Ian) played a game of Texas Hold 'Em. As usual, Uncle John took me out as the first casualty of the game. Rats! I believe he was the tournament winner--don't know how he manages to do that nearly every time!
After poker, Kelsey brought over her new kitten, Kirk. That's him with Laurel, who you couldn't tear away from him. It was Nate's girlfriend's--she got it from the pound, but couldn't keep it in her dorm. And Judi wants to give it to me and Don. He's very cute and very cuddly. I'm not yet sure if I can handle another cat so soon after Hideous' death, especially one that's black like him. As I was petting him, I had to retreat to the other room for a short moment because the grief came flooding back to me. I suppose if Kelsey ends up not wanting it, we probably would. I think Don was secretly hoping that Judi would just give him to us and we would have taken him home that night.
In other news, I had an interview last week and haven't yet heard whether I got the job or not. Don's talking about a possible blogging job for me that might pay quite a bit with someone he knows from high school. We'll see how that goes. Otherwise, I'm enjoying a little time off from martial arts. I have a minor injury to my left leg and back that's bugging me. It just needs a little rest before I go back to it. It's giving me a lot of time on my hands, but I'm trying to use it to do a little more cooking. Made a killer chicken skillet stew yesterday. Maybe later this week, I'll try pumpkin pie too.
